Position Overview: (Major Functions and Non-Essential Functions):
The Sleep/Neurodiagnostic Technologist is a multi-skilled technologist who demonstrates independence and the ability to perform high quality procedures. The Sleep/Neurodiagnostic Technologist is responsible for complete and accurate patient preparation, data acquisition and data analysis. The Sleep/Neurodiagnostic Tech assimilates data from several sources and anticipates initiation of care; alters protocols/procedural steps in accordance to findings, maximizing data derived from the procedure(s). He/she must maintain vigilance and attention to detail, in an often non-stimulating environment. Participates in the on-call rotation in the department.
- Minimum Education and/or Experience Required: (Education Requirements and Experience):
Graduate of accredited electroneurodiagnostics (END) program or equivalent. Successful completion of Registered EEG Technologist (REEGT) or Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) exam(s), within one year of employment; credential to be completed will be based on primary area of work and/or direction of department leadership. Successful completion of additional credential (REEG T or RPSGT) within two years of employment. Eligibility to sit for Registered EEG Technologist and Registered Polysommographic Technologist exams.
Additional Experience and/or Qualifications: (Has Achieved Competency in the Following Areas, Job Knowledge and Additional Considerations):
Credentials in electroencephalography (EEG) (Registered EEG Technologist) highly desirable. Broad-base knowledge in END science and procedures, including EEG, Evoked Potential (EP), Nerve Conduction Studies (NCS, Polysomnography (PSG). Able to work with and communicate effectively with all levels of health care professionals. Able to function independently and as a part of a team. Able to understand written communication and documentation and to communicate effectively with patients and their relatives. Ability to perform high quality neurodiagnostic procedures in the lab or at bedside, including electroencephalographic (EEG), all modalities of evoked potentials (EP), Multiple Sleep Latency test (MSLT), and Maintenance of Wakefulness test (MWT). Ability to edit long-term video and ambulatory EEG's.
