Receives direction from nurse manager, supervisor, team leader, and registered nurses. Is
supervised by registered nurses and physicians. Works cooperatively with members of nursing
staff, physicians, managers, and support staff. Interacts professionally with patients and treats
them with dignity and respect.
The Endoscopy Technician assists with delegated tasks of direct and indirect patient care under
the supervision of a registered nurse and/or physicians in Endoscopy. The technician assists with
assessment of patient needs and follows through with the designated plan of action. The
technician is responsible for the care, handling, and processing of endoscopy procedural
equipment and turnover of the procedure room(s). The technician is responsible for assisting
with diagnostic and therapeutic procedures such as ERCP, EUS/EBUS, GI bleeds, food bolus and
foreign body removal, stenting of the esophagus, duodenum, colon, bile and pancreatic ducts in
the Endoscopy Department and other areas of the hospital. The Inpatient/365 Endoscopy
Technician works in the inpatient environment and/or a work area that operates 365 days per
year. May have restricted on-call responsibilities outside of 'normal' work hours and may be
cross-trained to work in multiple sites at the employer's discretion This individual must
demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development of the life span,
appropriately interpret information relative to the patient's age-specific needs, and be able to
communicate data reflective of the patient's status.
High school diploma or GED equivalent. Requires 1+ year(s) of GI experience.
Additional Experience and/or Qualifications: (Has Achieved Competency in the
Following Areas, Job Knowledge and Additional Considerations):
Medical background and experience as a Medical Assistant or GI Technical Specialist (GTS)
preferred. Familiarity with the digestive tract and respiratory disease processes. Ability to adapt
to unpredictable situations within the patient care setting. Excellent communication skills.
Minimal typing and basic computer skills.
Basic Life Support certification is required upon hire and must be valid for 90 days or greater
from start date. Maintains Basic Life Support (BLS) competency.
Shift: Start time vary between 7am, 7:30am, 8am, and 8:30 am. Will be an 8 hour shift with a 30 minute lunch; 40 hr/wk. On call hours required. On call hours: M-F, 5pm-6am. Saturday and Sunday on call hours are 7am-7am (24 hrs). Staff sign up for on- call hours to determine which days they will be on call. Will need to be within 45 minutes of facility when on-call.
