Position Details 

Job Description:

  • The Senior Category Manager will have complete oversight responsibility for multiple product categories within the spectrum of Medical Devices, Medical Supplies, Medical Equipment, Services, and IT products. This includes effective use of our Category Management Process to develop leading edge supply strategies for assigned categories, resulting in solutions which enable the best possible patient care at optimal cost and which support clinical operations. This also includes appropriate deployment and negotiation of applicable contracts, agreements and tools which facilitate effective operations, ensure legal compliance, prevent business risk, and ensure continuity of product supply. In the development and implementation of these category strategies, in addition to leading enterprise initiatives which support clinical practice convergence, the Senior Category Manager will establish effective working relationships with stakeholders and leadership across our enterprise as well as with external suppliers and partners. The Senior Category Manager will participate in and represent SCM on appropriate enterprise and clinical committees, such as Specialty Councils and initiative work groups. The Senior Category Manager acts as a mentor, coach and resource for analysts, coordinators, and contract portfolio managers within category management, offering product and industry expertise, SCM process expertise, and practical application knowledge of our Category Management Process (Initiation, Insight, Innovation, Implementation and Improvement). Typically responsible for a contract portfolio in excess of $100M annual spend


Qualifications

  • Minimum Education and/or Experience Required: (Education Requirements and Experience): 
    A four-year undergraduate degree in business or a related field is a minimum requirement, along with 8+ years of supply chain management experience or experience in other relevant roles such as project management, contracting, business agreement analysis and negotiation, and technology or healthcare management. A Master's degree is desirable. In addition to the 8+ years minimum experience, at least five years' experience in progressively responsible project or initiative leadership positions in supply chain management is highly desirable. Must have extensive product and market knowledge. Must have broad supply chain experience, extensive contracting and negotiation experience, including knowledge of and ability to apply contract law, skill at developing a negotiation strategy and leading a negotiation team, project leadership experience, experience facilitating cross-site, cross-functional and multi-disciplinary teams, experience with business data analysis and supply strategy development. Advanced certification in healthcare desirable. Work experience in a hospital, a multi-hospital system or other healthcare related setting is required. 

    Additional Experience and/or Qualifications: (Has Achieved Competency in the Following Areas, Job Knowledge and Additional Considerations): 
    Certification in purchasing/supply chain management is preferred. Experience in a non-healthcare industry is viewed positively, particularly in an industry recognized as having world-class supply chain management. Working knowledge of the supply chain category management process and associated tools and competencies. Demonstrated competency level of â€oeLeaderâ€?, â€oeExpertâ€? or â€oeMasterâ€? is desirable. Demonstrated excellent organization and communication skills is a must.
