Job Description

  • Channels all incoming calls and provides direct numbers as needed; connects callers with local and out-of-state numbers as appropriate using a PC/Windows based console.
  • Takes patient referral information from external Physician Offices and disseminates to appropriate scheduling team.
  • Assists in training new telephone operators by reviewing policy and procedures, answering questions and training on required systems. 
  • Additional duties may include but are not limited to; Additional clerical tasks such as disseminating email/fax/phone to appropriate scheduling teams, email/fax/phone outside institutions requesting outside material for upcoming appointments/review, indexing incoming faxes, collating patient packets, etc.       

 

Specific Job Details:

  • At least 1 year of experience in a medical setting preferred.Applicant must have at least a minimum of 1 year of multi-phone line experience.
  • Applicant must possess a high level of concentration, memory retention, and attention to detail.
  • Applicant is required to have a minimum of 2 years of customer service experience.
  • Applicant must display competency of the following skills: spoken communication, interaction and versatility, decision making and problem solving, coping, commitment to task, tolerance of ambiguity, decisiveness, alertness and perceptivity. Accuracy is necessary as well as the ability to think and respond quickly in stressful or emergency situations.
  • Strong communication skills, the ability to work with a team and independently are required.
  • Physical Requirements Must be able to do the following:
  • View a computer monitor and read newsprint font style and size, hear in both ears, sit at a computer desk, work in varying light levels, and perform repetitive upper body motions for an eight to ten hour shift.
  • Also must have adequate use of both hands.
  • Must be able to sit for long periods of time.
  • Shift: Tues-Sat 9a-5:30p

 

Qualifications:

  • Requires a high school diploma or G.E.D.
  • Requires knowledge of basic office equipment (computers, photocopiers, fax machines, etc).
  • Typing skills and office computer software knowledge required.
  • Must be self-directed with good problem-solving and organizational skills.
  • Must be able to carry out duties independently without close supervision and receive direction from multiple sources.
  • Must be able to read and follow instructions and able to manage multiple tasks.
  • Will be accountable for the delivery and pick-up of all items in an efficient manner. 
  • At minimum: 6-12 months experience working in Healthcare Industry with understanding of Medical Terminology.
  • Telecommunications Specialists are required to clearly speak, write, and understand the English language as well as be understood while speaking the English language.
  • Previous customer service skills.
  • Must demonstrate strong problem solving and decision making skills.
  • Experience with computer and Microsoft products required.
  • Keyboarding or typing skills essential.
  • Ability to quickly and accurately manage emergency calls.
  • Works additional hours or a modified shift to support the work unit during staffing emergencies.
  • Follows safe work practices.
  • Must be able to see and hear within normally acceptable standards, either with or without the use of amplification devices.
  • Must be able to read, write and speak English fluently.
  • Must be able to work weekends and alternating holidays.
  • Must have adequate use of both hands.
  • Must be able to sit for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to function independently after receiving four to eight weeks of on-the-job-training.
